Happy “World Mental Health Day”

In this post, I will go over different ways that you can protect your mental health. Mental Health is important no matter your gender. Yes, even men can get sad and depressed.

Social Media can be great time waster but sometimes you need a break. Go on social media hiatus every couple of months to reset you brain. This hiatus should be at least a couple of days to a week or so long.

Get off the internet for a couple of days, go for a walk with your dog, ride your bike or do something not related to technology. Go for a walk without your phone, if you bring your phone on a walk because you want to listen to music, try to keep it in your pocket while walking.

If you are the creative type, try to make something or draw something. Creating art can activate the mind and help distract you from your worries. After you create art, maybe hang it up in your room or house, for others to see. It can be hard but if you do not like what you made, wait a day or so before destroying it. You might change your mind!.

Getting a good night sleep can be hard but it is really one of the best thing you can do for your brain. During sleep your brain removes toxins from your brain that form during the day. An hour or so before sleeping, turn of your TV, put your phone down and limit your screen time. Doing so will help you get your brain ready for a good night of sleep. Studies have concluded that lack of sleep might increase the chances of Alzheimer.

Only send or accept friends requests to people you know. This will limit any problems with trolls. Also turn on privacy features such as only letting people you are following to tag you on social media sites.

Get some exercise, you will feel great, get in shape and maybe even get out of your head for a bit. Even if you can not run, you could take a walk around your neighborhood with your dogs or by yourself. You will feel great and your dogs will love it. Push ups are another exercise you can do without having to purchase a gym membership or buying workout gear.

Join a club, sports league or Improv open night. There a lot of different activities you can do to find other people who have similar interests. For a while I attended Improv open night every Monday. It was cheap and fun to learn something new. There are a ton of different sports leagues you can join. They might cost a little to attend but I think it is worth it. I bowl in a bowling league every Thursday, it is a great way to meet people from different walks of life. If you are a nerd like me, see if there is a local 2600 club that you can attend. 2600 is a hacking club, where people interested in technology can get together and hang out while learning about technology.
